The Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) is a Delhi-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing technical assistance in microinsurance domain-knowledge to organizations that focus on low-income communities. With over 40 professionals including researchers, training specialists and development experts, the MIA is the largest microinsurance resource center globally.
MIA conducts evidence based research on microinsurance, and publishes extensively on various aspects of microinsurance. It also provides structured technical assistance to existing and new microinsurance units (MIUs), conducts specialist trainings, provides advisory services and engages in advocacy in a variety of areas linked to the development of the microinsurance sector internationally.
In order to integrate microinsurance with existing financial and social protection frameworks, the MIA works in liaison with partners from civil society, academia, bilateral and multilateral development agencies, the (re)insurance industry and national governments in several regions of the world.

The Government of Ghana introduced the rural banking concept in the early 1970s to offer financial intermediation to rural areas where financial services to the poor was non-existent. The Office of Population Studies (OPS) was founded in 1971 by Dr. Wilhelm Flieger, a demographer trained at the University of Chicago. Since then, OPS has contributed to the development initiatives in the Visayas region and the Philippines by training researchers and conducting research in the areas of demography, health and nutrition, environment, gender and other socioeconomic issues. OPS promotes research of government programs and advocates better knowledge on population-related concerns. They have been funded by foreign and international agencies, such as USAID, UNFPA, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank.
